A Prayer For Today and The Serenity Prayer

Written by Sean Farrell | Sep 10, 2014 1:15:00 PM

Good Morning.

Today’s Devotional is on prayer

This morning, like each morning, it was still dark outside as I awakened. I always try to move around our house without the lights being careful not to disturb anyone if they are still sleeping. I have also been told that once my shoes are on, I can make a lot of noise. I still had a little work to do to complete this devotional. I was reminded of my faith in two ways before I went to my office in the garage where I can make all the noise I want and turn every light on and not disturb anyone.

Once I know where our dog is, I can move about the house with the lights off pretty easily; trusting what I can’t see.

When I turn on the lights, I can better see what is before me.

Matthew 5:14 You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.

Devotional on Prayer

Matthew 7: 8-9 Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will open for you.  For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches, finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

A Prayer for Today

This is the beginning of a new day.

God has given me this day to use as I will.

I can waste it or use if for good, but what I do today is important, because I am exchanging  a day of my life for it.

When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever, leaving in its place something that I have traded for it.

I want it to be gain, and not loss; good, and not evil; success, and not failure, in order that I shall not regret the price I have paid for it.

This day is all we have.  Is there someone to whom an act of kindness-not tomorrow but today-could make a world of difference?

Today, whether we spend it well or throw it away, will be gone tomorrow. What is there to do that is worth our effort?

Another prayer you will find displayed in my office is the Serenity Prayer:

Serenity Prayer

God, Grant me Serenity to accept the things I cannot change

Courage to change the things I can, and Wisdom to know the difference.

I hope you have a tremendous day and can be the light in someone else’s life today!

Kindest Regards,
John
